Nursery Care Provider – Portland Friends Meeting

Portland Friends Meeting (PFM) provides childcare every Sunday
during Meeting for Worship for infants and children too young
(generally 5 years old and under) to attend the youth program. The
nursery room is staffed by a paid Nursery Care Provider and, as
needed, volunteer assistants coordinated by the Youth Religious
Education Coordinator. The Nursery Care Provider fulfills the essential
function of being a consistent, welcoming, and trusted face to the
Meeting’s youngest children and their caregivers each Sunday. During
the school year, children use the nursery room at the Meetinghouse
and, weather permitting, go outside to use a playset. During the
summer months, nursery care is provided at the Friends School of
Portland in Cumberland.
The work of the Nursery Care Provider is two hours every Sunday.
Additionally, other opportunities to provide paid nursery level care
arise throughout the year. The Nursery Care Provider is offered those
opportunities before anyone else, but accepting those opportunities is
not required by the position. In recognition of the significant
responsibility and trust required by the position, the Meeting provides
the Nursery Care Provider with a compensation of $22 per hour. All
work of the Coordinator is under the grateful guidance and support of
the Youth Religious Education Committee (YREC).
