We need YOU in Lewiston
July 7th at 10:30am
TO STAND UP FOR VOTING RIGHTS
MCC, Multifaith Justice Maine, and the national organization Faith in US are holding a press conference in Lewiston on Tuesday, July 7, at 10:30am and we need faith leaders from across the state to come and stand with us to express your commitment to protecting our neighbors’ voting rights and ensuring that elections remain free and fair, despite attempts by the federal government to undermine these foundations of our democracy.
Join us in Lewiston on the corner of Lisbon and Ash Streets in front of the “We are all in the same boat” mural at 10:30am on Tuesday, July 7, to make a public statement that together we stand for justice and fairness and believe in protecting the dignity and rights of all people, including voting rights. Wear clerical garb (e.g., collar, stole, yarmulke, prayer shawl, kufi, etc.) to help make a visual statement of our faith communities’ commitment.
More than 100 of Maine’s faith leaders have already signed on to a national letter demonstrating their commitment to this cause. (If you haven’t signed on yet, there’s still time! Use the link below to sign on by July 4.)
You’ll be carrying on the proud tradition of American faith leaders throughout our history who have showed up, stood up, and spoken up when our democracy needed them most: in the abolition of slavery movement, during reconstruction, as part of the civil rights, labor, and farm worker movements. This is another such moment when we are called to be on the right side of history.
