Produced by MCC partner National Religious Campaign Against Torture for communities of faith, the 35-minute documentary “Torture In Our Name” spotlights the tenacity and resilience of people who have survived the torture of solitary confinement and then mounted successful legislative campaigns to ban the practice in U.S. prisons. Through poignant interviews with survivors whose stories have caused lawmakers to take notice, as well as faith community leaders who share their own journeys of finding their voice in the movement, this film inspires audiences to take action.
We invite you to watch this important film (using the link we will provide when you register) and then join us and members of the Maine Prisoner Advocacy Coalition (MPAC) and NRCAT for an online panel discussion about the documentary on Thursday, February 16, 12 noon to 1:00pm. The panel will include a family member whose loved one survived solitary confinement in a Maine prison, along with UCC/UU minister and NRCAT Board member Rev. Jill Saxby and Lani Graham, MD, MPH a public health physician working with MPAC.

The Maine state legislature will be considering a bill this session to ban long-term solitary confinement in Maine prisons, and this legislation will be the focus of one of the workshops in our Faith-based Advocacy Series. This film screening and panel discussion will make an excellent follow-up to that workshop.
