H.R.6707 – Advancing Equality for Wabanaki Nations Act
On July 14th, the U.S. House passed HR 6707, Advancing Equality for Wabanaki Nations Act, with strong bipartisan support, 277-150, as part of the FY2023 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). The bill was sponsored by Maine Rep. Golden and co-sponsored by Maine Rep. Pingree. Maine Senator Angus King sits on the conference committee that will now oversee the reconciliation process for the House and Senate versions of the NDAA. Please write to Senator King using his online contact form ASAP to urge his support for including HR 6707 so that tribes in Maine can benefit from future laws that already benefit all other federally recognized tribes.
