An Ecumenical Singing Celebration of Thanksgiving
On Wednesday, November 26, at 7:00pm, at St. Luke’s Cathedral (143 State Street), clergy and laity from many of Portland’s churches will gather to sing and reflect on the meaning of Thanksgiving. MCC Board members Allen Ewing-Merrill and Bill Barter, along with Executive Director Jane Field, will be among the worship leaders for this ecumenical service. The congregation will join in singing familiar hymns of the season, such as “We Gather Together,” “Come Ye Thankful People Come,” and “Now Thank We All Our God,” and clergy will take turns sharing reflections. An offering will be received to benefit the work of Hope Acts, a non-profit organization providing recovery and wellness programs to those suffering from addiction, and providing services and support to immigrants, refugees and asylum seekers, including the transitional housing program “Hope House” where asylum seekers can live, learn English, and gain an understanding of life in the United States during their first few months in this country. All are welcome at this ecumenical Thanksgiving celebration—please come!
